Jardin botanique de Montréal

park garden

The Jardin botanique de Montréal spans seventy-five hectares and is defined by its administrative pavilion, an H-shaped building constructed between nineteen thirty-two and nineteen thirty-eight in the Beaux-Arts and Art Deco styles. Its facade features four terracotta bas-reliefs by sculptor Henri Hébert, which depict the horticultural traditions of North America’s first peoples. Founded in nineteen thirty-one, the garden was a project spearheaded by the botanist Brother Marie-Victorin, who sought to establish a scientific and educational hub for the city.
