El Castillo Museum and Gardens is a medieval Gothic-style mansion that sits atop a hill, distinguished by its tall, needle-like towers and ogival windows. Built in nineteen thirty, the structure was originally a private residence modeled after the châteaux of the Loire Valley in France. The estate later became the home of industrialist Diego Echavarría Misas and his wife, Doña Benedikta Zur Nieden, who filled the rooms with European art, porcelain, and stained glass collected during their travels.
