Plaza de Gardel

Plaza de Gardel is a wide, open public space located directly outside the gates of Olaya Herrera Airport. It features a bronze statue of the tango singer Carlos Gardel, created by local sculptor Salvador Arango. The plaza stands on the very site of the runway where, on June twenty-fourth, nineteen thirty-five, a tragic collision between two aircraft ended the life of the world-famous musician and fifteen others.
