Parque Central de San José

Parque Central is marked by a massive, central bandstand featuring prominent concrete arches and a roof capped with a large, ball-shaped knob. This structure, which many observers compare to Art Deco or Gaudí-esque designs, was a gift from Nicaraguan dictator Anastasio Somoza García and arrived in nineteen forty-four. It sits within the oldest public space in San José, a site that was landscaped into its current park form in eighteen eighty-five.
