Iglesia Nuestra Señora de la Merced

The Iglesia Nuestra Señora de la Merced is recognizable by its single central tower, which stands out with a design influenced by German Gothic architecture. Construction began in June eighteen ninety-four under the direction of Bishop Bernardo Augusto Thiel, with engineering by Lesmes Jiménez Bonnefil and architecture by Jaime Carranza. The building features an iron roof and a stone plinth, and it serves as a home for the sculpture of the Cristo Agonizante, a work by artist Manuel María Zúñiga.
