Bab Zuweila stands out for its two massive, semi-circular stone towers topped by a pair of slender, elegant minarets. Completed in ten ninety-two during the Fatimid dynasty, this structure served as the southern gateway to the fortified city of Al-Qahira. It takes its name from the Zuweila tribe of Berber soldiers, who were stationed in this district to guard the caliphate when the city was first established.
