Saints Sergius and Bacchus Church

The Church of Saints Sergius and Bacchus, often called Abu Serga, is an ancient Coptic basilica built directly atop the remains of the Roman Fortress of Babylon. Its roof, designed to resemble the hull of Noah’s Ark, sits above twelve columns, most of which are crafted from white marble. Beneath the high altar lies a deep, stone-walled crypt, which is the site's most profound association; according to tradition, this cave sheltered the Holy Family during their flight into Egypt to escape King Herod.
