Abu Haggag Mosque

religious

The Abu Haggag Mosque is distinguished by its minarets rising directly from the sandstone courtyard of the ancient Luxor Temple. This structure sits atop layers of history, including an older basilica and the foundations of a temple complex dating back to the fourteenth century before the common era. It is named for Sheikh Yusuf Abu al-Haggag, a thirteenth-century Sufi scholar who settled in Luxor and whose tomb rests within the walls.
