museum

The Base sous-marine is a vast, hulking block of reinforced concrete, measuring two hundred forty-five meters long and over sixteen meters high. It dominates the Bacalan district, appearing more like a geological formation of gray stone than a conventional building. Constructed by German occupying forces between nineteen forty-one and nineteen forty-three, the site was engineered specifically to shelter U-boats and resist heavy aerial bombardment during the Second World War.
