Stamba Hotel is a massive, concrete-and-glass structure on Kostava Street that takes its name from the Georgian word for printing house. Built in the nineteen thirties as a major publishing complex, the building once housed the press where the newspaper Kommunist—the primary propaganda mouthpiece of Soviet Georgia—was printed. After the Soviet Union collapsed, the site stood abandoned for two decades, its vast halls left to ruin until a local hospitality firm began a three-year restoration that opened the space in two thousand seventeen.
