Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg

The centerpiece of the University of Music and Theater Hamburg is the Budge-Palais, an eighteen-eighty-four villa that overlooks the Outer Alster lake. Designed by the architect Martin Haller, this historic mansion was once the home of the banker Henry Budge and his wife Emma. After Emma Budge passed away, the property was sold to the city under highly disputed circumstances and served as the seat of the National Socialist district leader throughout the second world war.
