Castle of Pyrgos Kallistis

The Castle of Pyrgos, or Kasteli, crowns the highest point of the village of Pyrgos Kallistis. It is recognized by its concentric, labyrinthine layout, where rows of houses were constructed to form an impenetrable outer wall designed to repel pirate raids. Built around fifteen eighty, this Venetian-era fortress is the most recently constructed of the five medieval kastelia on Santorini.
