Panagia Episkopi is the oldest church on Santorini, standing out from the island's famous white-and-blue cliffside architecture with its beige-washed, cross-domed Byzantine design. Located at the foot of Profitis Ilias mountain, this building has served as the seat of the Orthodox diocese for centuries. It was commissioned in the late eleventh century by the Byzantine Emperor Alexios the First Komnenos, likely replacing an earlier basilica.
