The church of Saint Stephen, or Agios Stefanos, contains the remains of a significant Christian monument from the island's early Byzantine period. The site preserves the ruins of an older, three-aisled basilica constructed around the middle of the sixth century. This original structure featured a double narthex and an apse at its middle aisle before an earthquake caused its destruction.
