Pura Tirta Empul is recognizable by its long, rectangular stone pools fed by a series of waterspouts that flow continuously into the water below. Founded in nine hundred sixty-two AD during the Warmadewa dynasty, this Hindu Balinese water temple is built around a natural spring that feeds the Pakerisan River. The site is divided into three distinct courtyards, with the central yard containing the famous bathing structures where visitors and local worshippers gather for a traditional purification ritual known as melukat.
