St. Audoen’s Park is defined by the heavy, weathered stone of the medieval city walls that run through its center. These defensive fortifications, which date back to roughly eleven hundred, once controlled the movement of people and trade into the walled city of Dublin. Today, the park sits on a steep slope alongside St. Audoen’s Church, the oldest surviving parish church in the city, which has stood above this ground since thirteen hundred.
