Basilica of Santa Croce in Florence

religious

The Basilica of Santa Croce is distinguished by its white, green, and pink marble facade, a nineteenth-century Neo-Gothic addition that features a prominent Star of David integrated into the design by the architect Niccolò Matas. As the largest Franciscan church in the world, the building was begun in the late thirteenth century on marshland outside the original city walls. It is known as the Temple of the Italian Glories because it serves as the final resting place for some of the most influential figures in Italian history.
