L'"Angelo del dolore"

other

The Angel of Grief is a life-size marble sculpture of a winged figure collapsed in abandonment over a funeral altar, her face buried in her arms and wings draped protectively over the stone. This monument stands inside the Non-Catholic Cemetery in the Testaccio district of Rome. It is the final major work of the American sculptor William Wetmore Story, who finished the piece in eighteen ninety-four.
