The bronze equestrian statue of Giuseppe Garibaldi towers over the summit of Janiculum Hill, mounted on a massive marble pedestal that commands the Roman skyline. Designed by sculptor Emilio Gallori and inaugurated on September twentieth, eighteen ninety-five, this monument portrays the revolutionary hero confidently seated on his horse, wearing his characteristic poncho and cap. Four bronze sculptural groups decorate the base, representing allegories of Europe and America alongside scenes from Garibaldi’s battles during the long struggle for Italian unification.
