Owakudani

landmark

Owakudani is a jagged, steaming volcanic valley marked by constant plumes of gas and sulfur-stained rocks. Known as the Great Boiling Valley, this site was shaped roughly three thousand years ago when a central cone of the Hakone volcano collapsed during a massive eruption. The terrain remains a hotbed of geothermal activity, with fumaroles hissing continuously and a distinct scent of sulfur hanging in the air.
