Injō-ji Temple (Sembon Emma-dō)

Injō-ji, widely known as Senbon Enma-dō, is marked by rows of red lanterns hanging near its main hall. Founded in ten seventeen, this temple sits at the historic entrance to Rendaino, which served as one of the three major burial grounds for Kyoto. The name Senbon, meaning one thousand, reflects the countless stupa tablets once placed along the road here to offer prayers for the deceased.
