This quiet site in the Murasakino district is marked by the presence of Japanese beauty berry trees, whose purple fruit ripen in the fall. Here lies the tomb of Murasaki Shikibu, the eleventh-century writer who authored The Tale of Genji, widely recognized as one of the world's first novels. Her gravesite sits within the former grounds of Unrin-in Temple, an area believed to be connected to her life and death.
