Nara Park

park garden

Nara Park is an expansive public landscape at the foot of Mount Wakakusa, defined by its population of over one thousand wild sika deer that roam freely among ancient temple grounds. Established in eighteen eighty, the park serves as the setting for historic structures including the Todai-ji Temple, Kofuku-ji Temple, and Kasuga Grand Shrine. Throughout the grounds, visitors observe a distinct uniform tree line at one hundred ninety centimeters, created by generations of deer grazing on the foliage at the exact height they can reach.
