Shelter Shimokitazawa is tucked away in a basement at two-six-ten Kitazawa. You can identify the venue by the stairs leading down from the street level into a dark, compact space built to accommodate roughly two hundred to two hundred fifty people. Since its opening in nineteen ninety-one, this club has operated as a core part of the Loft Project, a group of venues that helped shape Japan's alternative rock scene.
