Former Yasuda Garden

The Former Yasuda Garden is a traditional Japanese strolling garden, distinguishable by a central pond shaped like the kanji character for heart. First laid out in the late seventeenth century, the grounds originally served as the suburban residence of a domain lord. The estate eventually passed to Zenjiro Yasuda, a prominent financier who remodeled the property in eighteen ninety-four. Following his death, the garden was bequeathed to the city in nineteen twenty-two.
