The Museum of the Occupation of Latvia is a dark, angular, minimalist building that contrasts sharply with the nearby historic merchant houses of Riga’s Old Town. Originally constructed in nineteen seventy-one, it served as a Soviet museum dedicated to the Red Latvian Riflemen before it was reclaimed and repurposed following the restoration of Latvian independence.
