Casa Halach Uinik

The Casa Halach Uinik sits within the walled city of Tulum, built of limestone and recognizable by its portico with columns and a pilaster. Known in the Yucatec Maya language as the house of the great lord or ruler, the building served as a residence for the elite who governed the city. It is positioned near other palace-type structures along the main street of the archaeological zone, resting on a raised stone platform that signaled the status of its occupants.
