The Temple of the Frescoes is a two-story structure defined by its colorful interior murals and the weathered stucco masks that cling to its exterior corners. Built during the Late Postclassic period, around fourteen fifty, this small building served the ancient city of Tulum as both a religious site and a solar observatory. Its architecture, which includes four monolithic columns at the entrance and niches housing stone figures, was designed to align with the sun’s cycles to help priests track agricultural seasons.
