The Grand Hotel Amrâth Kurhaus is recognized by its massive, palace-like facade that anchors the Scheveningen seafront. Built between eighteen eighty-four and eighteen eighty-five by architects Johann Friedrich Henkenhaf and Friedrich Ebert, the structure replaced an earlier wooden bathhouse that had stood on the site since eighteen eighteen. Though a fire gutted the building in eighteen eighty-six, it was reconstructed in time for the following year’s bathing season.
