Statue of Queen Victoria

This bronze statue of Queen Victoria stands atop a tall granite pedestal, depicting the monarch holding a fan with the train of her dress spilling over the base. Unveiled in eighteen ninety-nine to celebrate her Diamond Jubilee, it was the first of four monuments to the queen erected across New Zealand. The statue sits within Albert Park on the site of the former Albert Barracks, which once housed imperial troops during the nineteenth century.
