San Francisco Convent Museum

museum

The San Francisco Convent Museum is recognizable by its navy-blue, birthday-cake facade and the graceful, open-air cloisters of the former monastery. First established in fifteen twenty-nine, the structure is one of the oldest religious sites in Central America. Throughout its existence, the building suffered repeated destruction, including being burned by pirates in sixteen sixty-five and sixteen eighty-five, and leveled again during the eighteen fifty-six attack by William Walker’s mercenaries.
