Panmen Gate is distinguished by its unique dual-gate structure, which combines an entrance for land traffic with a separate channel for waterborne vessels. Located at the southwest corner of the historic Gusu District, this fortification is the only surviving gate of the eight that once guarded the ancient capital of Suzhou. The base of the structure features massive stone archways that have stood since the Yuan Dynasty, while the red, two-story tower above was added in nineteen eighty-six to commemorate the city’s long history.
