Norbulingka, which translates to "Jewel Park" or "Treasure Garden," is the largest man-made garden in Tibet. Covering thirty-six hectares, the site is defined by its sprawling grounds that blend traditional Tibetan architecture with meticulously landscaped woods, meadows, and ponds. It served as the traditional summer residence for the Dalai Lamas, who moved here from the Potala Palace during the summer months to handle administrative tasks, study, and hold meetings.
