Hotel El Convento is recognizable by its classic, butter-yellow facade and heavy mahogany doors that open onto the street. The building was founded in sixteen fifty-one as the first Carmelite convent in the Americas. It served as a place of quiet devotion for over two centuries, housing nuns until nineteen oh three.
