The University Palace is a grand neoclassical structure that anchors the northern side of University Square, distinguished by its long rows of stately columns and tall porticoes. Designed by the president of Romanian architects, Alexandru Orăscu, the building began construction in eighteen fifty-seven to serve as the new intellectual center for the city.
