Four copper dragons, each perched on a corner pedestal, identify the Dragon Bridge. These statues have become the city’s most recognizable symbols, yet the bridge itself was a pioneering work of engineering when it opened in nineteen oh one. Built to replace a wooden structure damaged in the eighteen ninety-five earthquake, it was one of the first bridges in Europe to use reinforced concrete.
