The Basílica de Santa Maria del Pi is defined by its massive rose window, which spans ten meters and remains the largest of its kind in Catalonia. This Catalan Gothic basilica stands in the heart of the city, built between thirteen nineteen and thirteen ninety-one on the site of a much older Romanesque church. Its name comes from a local legend about a fisherman who discovered a statue of the Virgin Mary hidden within a pine tree, or pi in the Catalan language, on this very spot.
