Plaza de Santo Domingo

The Plaza de Santo Domingo is defined by the Church of Santo Domingo, a building whose construction began in fifteen twelve under the direction of the Catholic Monarchs. The plaza serves as the heart of the Christian Realejo neighborhood, an area where the monastery associated with this church once functioned as the seat for the Tribunal of the Holy Inquisition. At the center of the square stands a statue of Fray Luis de Granada, a sixteenth-century writer of the Dominican Order.
