The Temple of Debod is a jagged silhouette of ancient stone pylons rising from the grass of the Parque del Oeste. It is an authentic Nubian temple dating to the second century before the common era, when King Adikhalamani of Meroë ordered the construction of a small chapel dedicated to the god Amun. Over the following centuries, the structure grew as Ptolemaic rulers and Roman emperors added vestibules and new rooms, eventually forming a complex dedicated to the goddess Isis.
