Berkana

Berkana sits on the Calle de Hortaleza as the oldest LGBTQ+ bookstore in Spain. Founded in nineteen ninety-three by Mili Hernández, it was the first business of its kind in the country to maintain standard daytime commercial hours. At that time, the surrounding Chueca neighborhood was known for high rates of crime and drug use, and most gay-friendly spaces operated behind locked doors or restricted their hours to the night.
