Archivo de Indias

The Archivo de Indias is defined by a reddish brick and light stone façade, set in the historic heart of Seville. Originally commissioned by King Philip the Second and designed by architect Juan de Herrera, the building opened in fifteen eighty-four as the Lonja de Mercaderes. It served as a formal exchange for merchants who previously haggled in the cathedral, conducting trade in gold, silver, and spices from the newly reached territories.
