Al Jahili Fort is easy to spot by its square, mud-brick walls and the distinctive, multi-tiered round watchtower that rises above the surrounding palm trees. Constructed in the eighteen-nineties on the orders of Sheikh Zayed bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, this site was built to protect the Al Ain oasis and its date palm farmers from tribal conflict. It served as a summer residence for the ruling Al Nahyan family, who traveled here from the humid coast to seek the drier heat of the interior.
