The Fontainebleau Miami Beach is instantly recognizable for the sweeping, white curves of its primary building, which stands as a signature example of Miami Modern architecture. Designed by Morris Lapidus and opened in nineteen fifty-four, the resort replaced the former estate of Harvey Firestone on a twenty-acre stretch of oceanfront property. Hotelier Ben Novack envisioned a destination that would rival the most opulent palaces in the French countryside, from which he drew the inspiration for the hotel's name.
