E95th Street Bridge

landmark

The East Ninety-fifth Street Bridge is a six-lane bascule bridge spanning the Calumet River, recognizable by its steel pony trusses that curve along the sides of the roadway. It is the third bridge to stand at this location, replacing earlier swing and bascule designs that date back to the late nineteenth century. The current structure, which opened to traffic on June twenty-seventh, nineteen fifty-eight, serves as a major connection between the South Chicago and East Side communities.
