St. John Chrysostom Byzantine Catholic Church is identifiable by the onion domes and Slavic-style crosses that rise above the landscape near the Parkway East. Established by Carpatho-Rusyn immigrants in nineteen ten, the parish originally met in a small hall on Saline Street in a settlement the newcomers called Ruska Dolina, or the Rusyn Valley. As the community grew, the present structure was built at the corner of Saline and Anthony Streets, with the cornerstone blessed in nineteen thirty-two and the church dedicated in nineteen thirty-five.
