Taylor Allderdice High School stands out on Shady Avenue with its massive neoclassical brick facade and intricate stone carvings framing the entrance. Opened in nineteen twenty-seven, this public high school was named for Taylor Allderdice, a prominent industrialist and member of the city’s first school board. The building was designed by architect Robert Maurice Trimble and features an imposing structure that rises over the smaller houses of the surrounding Squirrel Hill neighborhood.
