The Belmont Hotel sits high on a limestone bluff in West Oak Cliff, recognizable by its five white, stucco buildings that appear to bubble and bulge along the hillside. Designed by architect Charles Dilbeck and opened in nineteen forty-seven, the complex was built to serve travelers on Fort Worth Avenue, which was then the primary route between Dallas and Fort Worth. To level the site for his vision, crews excavated eight thousand cubic yards of rock and earth, creating a perch that offered guests views of the Dallas skyline.
