The Flag Tower of Hue rises as a three-tiered pyramid of brick, supporting a tall steel-core mast that reaches thirty-seven meters into the sky. Built in eighteen oh seven during the reign of Emperor Gia Long, the structure was designed as a central observation point for the Nam Chanh bastion of the Hue Citadel. Its three levels represent the harmony of heaven, earth, and humanity, and were originally used to house sentry boxes and cannons that signaled across the city.
