Bondi Pavilion

cultural

The Bondi Pavilion is defined by its long, low-slung facade built in the Spanish Mission style, stretching out as the grand center of Bondi Beach. Construction on this beachside banqueting house and surf pavilion began in nineteen twenty-eight, replacing earlier, smaller dressing sheds that local residents had affectionately nicknamed The Castle. Since its official opening in December of nineteen twenty-nine, the building has operated as a focal point for the beach, housing everything from Turkish baths and a Palm Court ballroom to, during the second world war, an officers club for the American Red Cross.
