Wilder Institute's Calgary Zoo

cultural

The Wilder Institute’s Calgary Zoo occupies one hundred and twenty-five acres on St. George’s Island in the Bow River. You can identify the grounds by the presence of Dinny the Dinosaur, a one hundred and ten tonne concrete Brontosaurus that has stood as a provincial historical resource since nineteen eighty-seven. Dinny is the final survivor of fifty-six life-sized sculptures built in the nineteen thirties for a natural history park that once filled the island.
